Laser treatments work by delivering a laser light that kills the bacteria responsible for the acne. Laser therapy effectively clears 70%-90% of moderate, inflammatory acne in four to six weeks. Results are especially impressive when compared with conventional treatments, such as topical creams and oral antibiotics. Laser treatments usually help control acne breakouts for four to eight months; after that, occasional touch ups may be necessary. With the forementioned item in mind, laser treatment is not a 'cure' for inflammatory acne, it can provide a rapid reduction in the number of active acne spots. It also has the additional benefit of reducing the need for long-term antibiotic therapy. Laser treatment is not suitable for scarring, cystic acne. This condition usually requires aggressive conventional treatment with the drug Isotretinoin.
